Spain: The New Mediterranean Hot Spot

May 14, 2015

More top-notch superyachts will be available for charter this summer in Spain than ever before in the nation’s history.

It’s true! Recent changes to Spain’s tax laws are designed to open the charter market, making it easier than ever for luxury yacht owners to offer their boats the same way they currently offer them in the South of France and Italy. We’ve been watching the pre-season applications for cruising permits in the Balearics–Spain’s most beautiful archipelago–and we are seeing what amounts to a new-age “gold rush” of superyachts preparing to head west from their usual ports of call across the Mediterranean. From Barcelona to the Balearics, Spain is shaping up as the “place to be” this summer.

Charter itineraries in the Balearics can include the history-filled city of Palma on the island of Mallorca, the natural backdrops and preserves of Menorca, the spectacular sandy white beaches on Formentera and the pulsating discotheques on Ibiza–which some people are calling the younger, hipper version of St. Tropez.

If you’ve tried to charter in Spain in the past, only to be disappointed by the lack of superyacht options, now is the time to take another look. Below is a sampling of just a few yachts that are expected to be available this summer.

The following charter yachts have availability this summer in Spain:

RoMa, 202-foot VSY

Accommodations are for 12 guests in six staterooms.
