TEETH OF THE DOG WILL BITE YOU!  If you are a golfer, you know exactly what I’m talking about.  Teeth of the Dog is one of the top golf courses in the Caribbean and to quote Leroy Brown, it’s ‘meaner than a junk yard dog’ and one of the featured courses in this issue of Golf Courses and Spas of the Caribbean.

If you love yachting and also love golf – and can’t decide which type of holiday you want to book – guess what?  You don’t have to choose!  If one member of your group wants a yachting holiday, one wants a golf vacation and yet another wants to go to a resort and be pampered at a fabulous spa, well, now you can DO IT ALL!  The Caribbean is known for its tropical climate and beautiful blue water.  But it is also home to some of the best golf courses and resorts in the world. Fazio, Dye, Nicholson – they’re all here!!  Pack your clubs and head  to your luxurious yacht as your charter yacht heads for the ‘Links of the Caribbean”.  As a bonus for those traveling with you that may not be golfers, many of these resorts are also home to renowned spas.  This trip has it all!

This issue of “Golf Courses and Spas of the Caribbean” is based in the Dominican Republic where many of the top rated golf courses of the Caribbean are located.  These are just a few of the courses that will challenge you during stops as you cruise the Dominican Republic on your luxury charter yacht.

BEWARE – THIS DOG BITES!

Your holiday will begin when you fly in to La Romana International Airport where you will be met by your yacht crew and taken to your luxurious yacht that will be docked in the Casa de Campo Marina.   This will be home for the next couple of days while you challenge the Casa de Campo golf courses designed by Pete Dye. The most infamous of which is the Teeth of the Dog which is known for “no bark – all bite!”  This course opened in 1971 and is frequently at the top of any list of Caribbean golf courses.  Click this link for a hole by hole video of this course. Pete Dye had a home here and said that this was his favorite course.

DYEING FOR GOLF

If you’re not up for a dog fight, there is also a course to  DYE FORE  Let’s talk numbers: 27 holes; 7,740 yards long; 7 scenic cliff-side holes dropping 300 feet to the Chavón River below; and breathtaking 360 degrees views. By our calculations, Pete Dye’s masterpiece, Dye Fore golf course, has a winning formula. Characterized by spectacular views of the Dominican mountains, the Chavón River, the Marina, and Altos de Chavón.  This challenging cliff-side course is a delight for players of all levels.

SPA DAY

If you’re not in to dog bites and ‘dye’ing, then perhaps you would enjoy a relaxing day being pampered in the Casa de Campo Spa that offers a wide range of services to pamper their guests.

Mornings can be spent playing golf and enjoying the spa and afternoons can be spent taking a cruise to enjoy the water toys on the yacht.  Then back to port for a relaxing evening enjoying cocktails while watching a beautiful sunset before a sumptuous dinner aboard your yacht or at one of the speculator Casa de Campo restaurants.

 CRUISING AROUND THE ISLAND

After two days at Casa de Campo we will take a break from golf and spas and enjoy your beautiful yacht and experience some of the other reasons people want to visit this Caribbean paradise.  Over the next couple of days we will be cruising on the yacht and making stops to play with jet skis, swim, snorkel, sunbathe, maybe lunch on the beach.   Visit Isla Catalina, perhaps go diving or snorkeling or enjoy the thrill of zip lining through the forest.

 MORE GOLF AND SPA DAYS

Then it’s time to head back to the links and another amazing spa.  We will be docking in the lovely Cap Cana Harbor and Marina which will be your base for the next couple of days while you tackle the Jack Nicklaus course, Punta Espada, at Cap Cana.  This is a newer course which opened in 2006.  Many magazines are now moving this course in to the #1 position over Teeth of the Dog for golf in the Caribbean.  Whatever the rating, it is sure to challenge and delight you.  At Hole #10 your day of golf could easily turn in to a day at the beach.

Other golf courses in the Dominican Republic include the Corales Golf Course in Punta Cana. A Tom Fazio designed course with the “Devil’s Elbow” that will challenge the best of golfers.

Here will find another challenging Peter Dye course,   the  La Cana Golf course.. Both of these courses were severely damaged after being battered by hurricanes Irma and Maria, but the grounds keepers of both courses doubled down and just months later were better than ever and home to PGA Tour events.  Be sure to pack lots of extra balls for any of these courses.

And once again, while the golfers are enjoying these links, the non-golfers may choose a day at the luxurioius Six Senses Spa in Punta Cana

There are International airports in both La Romana and Punta Cana for easy access to your yacht.  Fly in to one and out of the other on this beautiful yacht, golf and spa holiday.
